A racing heart, a tight chest, a mind that will not switch off. Anxiety is exhausting — and manageable. Here is how to understand and soften it.
Anxiety is the body's alarm system stuck in the "on" position. It can feel like constant worry, a racing heart, tight chest, shortness of breath, restlessness, or a sense that something bad is about to happen. A panic attack can feel like dying — it is terrifying, but it is not dangerous, and it always passes.
When anxiety rises, try this: breathe in slowly through your nose for 4, hold for 4, breathe out gently for 6. Repeat three times. A longer out-breath tells your nervous system it is safe to calm down. Ground yourself: name 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear. You are bringing your mind back to the present.
Reduce caffeine · keep a gentle sleep routine · move your body a little each day · limit doom-scrolling before bed · write down the worry so it stops circling. None of these are cures — they lower the volume so the hard days are less overwhelming.
If anxiety stops you from working, sleeping, praying, or living the way you want — or if panic attacks are frequent — please talk to someone. Anxiety is very treatable. Zara can talk it through with you any time, and if you want, help you find a professional near you.
